Building Agentic Commerce Is ‘Imperative’ for Travel Companies

Mark Mahaney, senior managing director for research at Evercore ISI, said Wednesday that if companies such as Expedia, Booking.com, Uber, Amazon and Walmart see their ChatGPT apps get traction, then this could “dramatically” change the tech landscape within two years as other companies follow.
Mahaney, who was interviewed on CNBC, said it’s “imperative” for companies to build their own agentic commerce capabilities — but they don’t have to solely be on ChatGPT or its rivals, which he sees as another customer acquisition channel. Some of these agentic commerce tools will live on travel companies’ own websites and apps.
